I'm gonna say... this may be true... but sometimes dachshunds don't try especially hard, or especially long...

sounds exactly like my moms doxie Buster. they could spend hours outside and he will come right in a pee or poop on the carpet. However, this is a reoccurring thing not an accident thing like SJ

She is super-good about not peeing in the house. Refuses to. She will drop a deuce on the door mat in a hot minute, though, if it's raining or early in the morning and the grass is wet.

I do not understand the difference - as she is a girl dog, her bits are MORE in the grass when peeing than pooping, but if she is willing to do one in the house not the other, I'm glad it's this way. Easier to pick up tootsie rolls than replace carpet and padding.

Since it's been so hot, did she drink a lot of water before you guys got in the car or as soon as she got home? During Peaches' super active years, I'd have to make sure she peed as soon as we were done playing and again about 20-30 minutes later. Peeing in your bed is just PITA behavior.
