    Default Rabies Shot?

Pogo is 16, blind and grumpy. It is time for his 3 year rabies shot. The vet said, we should discuss, meaning it will be up to us to decide. Have you guys always continued with rabies vaccines regardless of age? I believe our vet is concerned that if Pogo ever bites someone he will need to be put down. He is never out with the general public, so I am trying to evaluate the risk. Thoughts?

If he's never out with the general public, I wouldn't bother.

Neither of the girls are because of their chronic conditions. They are indoors though, except on my in-laws' screened porches.

    This is my thought. I haven't renewed Scooter's even though it's due. He's 12

I stop giving m dogs shots around the age of 13. You can do a tither test to show their levels

A Titer blood test is a good idea. Your vet will send the blood sample to Kansas. I think it is expensive though.

It's the law in Nova Scotia, but none of the dogs I've had since Alex passed have been with me more than 3 years, and all got their shots coming into rescue so it's been academic so far. However, as a general rule, I don't vaccinate after 7 or 8, but do titres instead. I don't know prices elsewhere but here they're about $60. Go with your gut, Lisa. If it was me, I probably wouldn't bother since they're never around other dogs, or more importantly, wildlife.

We spoke to the vet and went with no. Both Rafi and I forgot Pogo had a negative reaction last shot, so it went from a maybe to a hard no.
