Something I thought of (when K2 lost Pippit actually) and thought it was time to share:

When you lose a dog in your life, especially a very special dog... a "heart dog"... it's like the world goes dark. Dogs bring so much light into our lives, it's hard to imagine how to function without their presence, or how the sun will shine again. And everyone tells you how sorry they are and they tell you how they lost a dog too, and how much it hurt, and how much they miss them. And you think how really nice that is and how grateful you are, but do they really understand? This person has outside dogs - do they really understand? This one has a bunch of kids she's busy with... that one is always complaining about her dog being annoying... do they really have any clue what my dog meant to me?

The people here... we really understand. We really do.

Many many hugs, and we are here for you both.

Kim, that is SO IT! That is why we keep this board going. Really, DLCers are the only people that I KNOW get it. I would rather rip my heart of my chest then go through this much pain. I know I have only met some of you a few times (or not at all), but you have been part of OUR lives for so long. You know our dogs. You know my dogs better than my family, better than my IRL friends. When making our wills, I only looked to DLCers to care for our most important decisions. I really love you all, and I truly thank you for reaching out today. It has been a horrible day. I know Pogo knows how much he meant to us and I know how much we meant to him. This much pain is worth it. The light, the love, the laughter, are worth it. I think that is why it hurts so much, because he brought us so much joy and we are going to miss our little human old grumpy dude so much.

Oh, Lisa! I'm so sorry. I had the honor of meeting Mr. Pogo when he was here for the wiener dog races. What a wonderful guy, he was.

You're so right. People here truly understand the pain and darkness of losing one of our little guys. It feels like your life stops when theirs does.

Oh Lisa and Rafi, my heart is absolutely broken. I know how much Pogo meant to you guys, and I can't imagine your pain right now. I met Pogo several times and even got to witness you serve him in his own kingdom. What an honor! I'll never ever forget him. Many hugs sent to you on this very sad day.

I'm sorry I'm so late in replying. I saw your post when I was at Ryan's swim lesson and this is the first chance I got to sit and write, but you have been in my thoughts all day.

You all here know that I am a little bit crazy and very doxie obsessed.

Every time I loose one of my seniors I go out and rescue another senior. It is my way of cooping.

How I have a house full of older seniors. Heck Wetley is now 13 and really showing his age.
My daughter told me the other day, "Mom, Iknow you love them however at your age you need to consider not takiing another one in...." Now, can I leave a senior doxie in a local shelter. I cannot.

I know know that most of you can't do what I do, but I am wondering how you honor your senors?

That handsome fellow chose a perfect day to go Home to God and I am blessed by it. July 11th is my birthday.

I understand your pain, truly I do. Skyler was my heart dog and each day there is still an ache of loss, I will not lie. I miss him so very much. But now I know, my birthday gift this year was a personally delivered message to my boy by your boy.

You have my deepest sympathy and empathy.
