Default Trigger Wagoner, a Very. Good. Boy

Last night, I took Savannah out to potty before bed and Trigger was barking. It's not unusual for him to bark at the occasional rabbit/possum/deer in the yard or mouse farting in the barn, but he had gone pretty well deaf over the past year.

It struck me as odd last night because he sounded insistent, so I said something to Sutton about it when I came in, but he didn't think too much of it either.

I guess he was saying goodbye, because when Sutty went to feed him this afternoon he didn't get up - he was gone.

My heart hurts. I should have known something was wrong, I should have gotten the flashlight and gone to check on him... Sutton said he didn't appear to be hurt or anything, just gone.

We got Trigger as a little bitty pup on Thanksgiving weekend before we got married in June, and I'm thankful that we had him for 14 years. He was a good, sweet boy and I will always remember how smart and sweet he was.

I'm so sorry! I went through the blame game myself with Jack and it doesn't help anyone. It was just his time. My sympathies. Big hugs to you.

I know. It took me a LONG time to stop blaming myself. It's tough.

It is tough not to get into the blame game. As Suzanne says "It was just his time". RIP Trigger

Thanks, ladies. I just hope he wasn't hurting or scared. He didn't sound like he was in pain at all. Maybe Sutton was right - maybe he was just saying goodbye.

Please don't blame yourself! He picked the best way to go with dignity. No longtime suffering. He's over the Rainbow Bridge now and planning when he will come back to you in a new young body.

I have so much P'nut guilt, always and forever. So I get that emotion. I hope in time the guilt leaves and you only have fond memories of Trigger. RIP sweet boy. Give lickies to you beautiful sister, Duchess.

He was saying goodbye. "I'm fine and off to chase and sniff and hunt" - love to you and Sutton.
