    Default Update

So I just want to update everyone! Dutchess started to breathe really heavily over the weekend so I just couldn't wait until the 19th and I took her in on Tuesday. The vet did an xray and bloodwork. Her blood work looks good at least. However, Alfina is right, she has an enlarged heart. A globe heart is what the vet called it. She was diagnosed with congestive heart failure.

The good news is the vet gave her a diuretic, a blood pressure med, and Vetmedin which is made specifically for congestive heart failure. The vet told me that she didn't expect any miracles overnight but that by the weekend we should hopefully see improvement. She was wrong... we saw improvement by the morning!! She ate her food (with a little coaxing), went out to potty happily (diuretic may have helped that a little), her breathing sounds so much better, she could get comfortable more easily, she is just more alive than she was. My heart is so happy for our little baby! I told hubby I need a couple hours with just her to be just us, like the good old days. Hopefully on a weekend soon!

The vet was very helpful and understanding about the current fund situation. Now hopefully this will be the end of our health issues for 2018...

    Huge thanks to everyone!!!!

I am glad you were able to take her in and that she feels better. Unfortunately heart failure is a chronic condition. It is something she will be living with for however long she has. It is important to manage it to avoid fluid overload and make it easier for her heart to handle the load.

I'm so glad she's feeling better!!! But sadly, Alfina's right. She'll need to be on those meds for the rest of her life. At the very least, the diuretic, which is a very cheap drug. Sending a ton more for her to keep feeling better.

I'm so glad she's feeling better. It sounds like things are moving in the right direction. I'm glad you got her in early.
