Someone asked me this recently so I thought I would post here. Field Trials are a hunt test. A measure of a dogs ability to do what dachshunds were bread to do. There is no actual killing intended, just scent following. Earthdog is also a hunt test. Neither involve racing. Here are some great links to information if you would like to know more.
